Who are the NFRC competent person scheme?

Established in 2006 and run by NFRC, our Competent Person Scheme (CPS) is the only active CPS scheme for the roofing sector in England and Wales.

The government’s CPS framework allows roofing contractors to self-certify that their work complies with Building Regulations. This saves clients time and money, as they would otherwise have to arrange a Building Control inspection to get the work approved.

Hundreds of contractors are approved under our Roofing Competent Person Scheme, self-certifying around 13,000 projects each year.

What the NFRC CPS do

NFRC CPS allows roofing contractors to self-certify that their work meets the requirements of Approved Document L1B of the Building Regulations without having to go through the bureaucratic and costly process of getting Building Control sign-off.

For homeowners and commercial clients, by using an NFRC CPS contractor, you could save hundreds of pounds on an inspection from Building Control, as well as the cost of a Building Control Compliance Certificate (BRCC).

Homeowners will also have the assurance of a ten-year Insurance Backed Guarantee (IBG) which all NFRC CPS contractors must have in place for domestic projects.
